Group trips run on trust and rough memory: one friend books the hotel, another swipes for dinner, someone keeps paying tolls. By the last day nobody remembers who covered what — and the “we’ll sort it later” conversation never quite happens. Here’s a cleaner way.
Give the trip its own Space
Don’t mix trip money into your personal tracker. In Habitveen, create a separate Trip Space and invite everyone by phone number. Every expense anyone logs lands in the same shared ledger, tagged with who added it. Your personal expenses stay personal; the trip stays in its own clean bubble you can open anytime — even years later.
Log at the counter, not at night
The rule that makes this work: whoever pays, logs it right then. That sounds like discipline, but it’s two seconds — type “petrol 1200” in plain words, or tap a category icon. If you wait for the evening recap, the three small chai-and-snacks stops are already gone from everyone’s memory.
See who has paid what, anytime
Because every entry carries its member’s avatar, the running picture is always visible: filter the ledger and totals by member and you can see that Rohan has fronted most of the fuel while everyone else has been coasting. No spreadsheet, no “I feel like I’ve paid for everything” arguments — just the actual numbers.
Settle up once, at the end
Don’t settle after every meal — that’s how trips turn into accounting sessions. Log everything as a split, and at the end let Habitveen do the math: it tracks who paid, who owes whom, and works out the fewest payments needed to make everyone even. Four friends usually clear a whole week’s trip with two or three UPI transfers.
Keep the record
After settling, the Space doesn’t vanish — it’s the trip’s money diary. Next time someone plans a similar trip, you have real numbers for what a Goa weekend or a Manali week actually costs, instead of a guess.
