Habitveen — Privacy Policy

Habitveen ("the app", "we") is a personal expense tracker with a nutrition/health
layer. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices. By using the app
you agree to this policy.
Your money data is private. Your expenses, budgets and notes live in your own
account and are readable only by you — and the members of any Space you choose to share.
The Habitveen developer cannot read your personal expense contents: access is
locked per-account by our database security rules. We only ever look at anonymous,
aggregate usage (for example, how many people use a feature) — never your individual records.
Information we collect
- Phone number — to sign you in (one-time SMS code) and identify your account.
- Profile — your name, and optionally age, gender, locality, lifestyle and preferred currency.
- Household members — if you create a household, the names/phone numbers/roles you add for members (so they can share the ledger).
- Your records — expenses (amount, category, note, date, payment method, and — if you split it — who shares it), budgets you set, and food items (name, quantity, price) you log.
- Account & device identifiers — a unique account ID assigned when you sign in, and a device notification token, used to operate your account, keep your data in sync across your devices, and send the alerts you enable. We do not use advertising identifiers.
- Location (optional) — only if you turn on the location toggle (📍) when adding an expense, we attach the approximate place (latitude/longitude) of that spend so you can see your spending on a map. It is captured only at the moment you save that expense, only while the toggle is on, and is stored with that expense — visible to you and the members of that Space. You can turn it off anytime. We do not track your location in the background.
- Assistant inputs — when you use the in-app assistant ("Ask Habitveen"), the text you type is logged so we can improve how it understands items and categories. If you use voice input, your speech is processed by your device's own speech-recognition service (for example, Google) to convert it to text; we receive only the resulting text. This data is not used for advertising and is not shared.
We do not collect contacts, photos, or device identifiers for advertising, and we do not use your location for advertising or share it with third parties. The app contains no ads and we do not sell your data.
How we use it
- To provide the core features: tracking spending, food/nutrition insights and personalised diet tips.
- To share a household ledger among the members you add.
- To keep your data in sync across your devices.
- To improve the in-app assistant's understanding of items and categories.
Device permissions
- Microphone — used only while you are dictating an expense with the assistant's voice button. Audio is not recorded or stored by us; it is handed to your device's speech service to produce text.
- Notifications — used to send reminders to log expenses and alerts when a member adds to a shared Space.
- Location (precise/approximate) — used only when you turn on the location toggle (📍) to tag where an expense happened. We read your location only at the moment you save that expense — never in the background. The place is saved with that expense so you can view your spending on a map; it is visible only to you and your Space members and is never shared with third parties or used for ads.
All three are optional and requested only when needed. You can grant or revoke them anytime from your device Settings → Apps → Habitveen → Permissions.
Where it is stored
Data is stored using Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore and Firebase Authentication).
It is transmitted over encrypted connections and protected by access rules so only you and
your household members can read your household's data.
Sharing
Your data is shared only with the members of a household you join or create, within the app.
We use Google Firebase as our infrastructure provider. We do not share your data with
advertisers or data brokers.
Website analytics
Our website (habitveen.com) uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors use
the site — for example, which pages are viewed — so we can improve it. This collects
standard, aggregated usage data (such as page views, approximate region, device and
browser type) and may set cookies. It is not linked to your Habitveen account and is not
used for advertising. You can opt out using your browser settings or the
Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
This applies to the website only — not to the app.
Data retention & deletion
Your data is kept while your account is active. You can delete individual entries in the app.
To delete your entire account and all associated data, use our
Delete your account & data page (or email us at the address below);
we will remove it within 30 days.
Children
Habitveen is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
